The port is protected by a two-arm outer breakwater with internal quay frontage except for the last stretch of about 140 m, which is formed of a reef.
The final stretch of the internal quay frontage ends with a protruding part perpendicular to it, to protect the entrance.
The new inner breakwater protects the east dock, which is internally divided into two by the old inner breakwater.
